If you thought local politics was predictable, I have a stunning update for you. Between an unexpected turn of events at City Hall, a spectacular summer kickoff, and an urgent campaign milestone just days away, the momentum in this race is shifting fast.

Here is everything you need to know:

🏛️ Plot Twist: Back on the Planning Commission!

Just a few weeks ago, I shared the disappointing news that I hadn't been reappointed to a second term on the Planning Commission. But in a remarkable twist of events, I am poised to return to the dais!

The individual initially selected by the City Council to replace me accepted a new job and discovered his work duties directly conflict with the Commission's meeting schedule. Because the appointment subcommittee had named me the first alternate, a majority of the City Council chose me to fill the unexpected vacancy. Thank you to Mayor Adam Loraine, Deputy Mayor Nicole Fernandez and Councilmember Rob Newsom for honoring the established process.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue this vital, detailed work. With a massive overhaul of our zoning code on the docket and the highest volume of projects in our city’s history, preserving institutional memory is more important than ever. I'm ready to dive right back into the data. 🤓

🌈 "San Mateo in Color" Was a Smashing Success!

While City Hall was sorting out the commission seat, our community was busy painting the town – literally! Over 60 neighbors and families gathered at Laurie Meadows Park for our San Mateo in Color celebration.

  • There was a Huntrix / TSwift playlist 🎶

  • There was Cruel Donuts 🍩

  • There was coloring and chalk and bubbles 🖍️🫧

  • There was a grand finale color toss! 🫟

The energy was absolutely electric! I feel so supported and energized to keep fighting for a vibrant San Mateo where everyone can thrive!

Mayor Adam Loraine blew us away with his incredibly generous introduction before my remarks. I am so proud to carry his endorsement with me in this campaign:

"In my opinion, as somebody who's been in City Hall for 10 years now...Seema Patel is the most qualified, ready candidate that I have seen for San Mateo City Council."

📉 The Big Push: $10K in 7 Days

We are exactly ONE WEEK away from our very first official campaign financial disclosure deadline. This public filing is a major test of our campaign’s strength, and it tells the political insiders exactly how powerful our grassroots movement is.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 before the clock strikes midnight on the deadline.

If you believe that San Mateo deserves data-driven, independent leadership that puts the community first, please consider chipping in today. Whether it’s $10, $50, or $100, every dollar directly powers our ability to print mailers, reach voters, and win this November.

🏡 This Sunday: Fiesta Gardens Neighborhood Meet-Up

Let's keep the conversation going! I am hosting our very first neighborhood meet-up this weekend, and I want to hear from you. Come share your ideas, ask questions, and chat about how we can build a more vibrant, safe, and connected San Mateo together.

Bring a neighbor, grab a snack, and let’s talk about the future of our neighborhood. I can't wait to see you there! RSVP on Facebook so we can make sure to have enough popsicles! 🍦

Thank you for your unwavering support, your resilience, and your belief in this campaign. The door at City Hall just swung back open, and together, we are going to walk right through it.

Warmly,
